Staatskapelle Berlin New Year

On December 31 and January 1, Pablo Heras-Casado will lead the Staatskapelle Berlin in two performances of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 at the German capital’s Schiller Theater at the invitation of Daniel Baremboim. Beethoven’s “Choral” Symphony has become an annual tradition for the German orchestra, which under the direction of the Spanish maestro, will welcome 2014 with an ensemble of soloists that includes soprano Anna Samuil, mezzo-soprano Anna Lapskovskaja, tenor Stephan Rügamer, and bass-baritone René Pape.  

Earlier this December, Pablo led Beethoven’s “Choral” Symphony with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra. He returns to St. Petersburg to lead the ensemble on January 29, 2014 in a program featuring Szymanowski’s Violin Concerto with Alena Baeva.
