Pablo Heras-Casado leads NHK Symphony in Music Tomorrow 2011 Concert

For his return to the NHK Symphony Orchestra, Pablo Heras-Casado leads the venerable Japanese orchestra’s annual Music Tomorrow showcase on June 28.

The program includes Hisatada Otaka’s Flute Concerto featuring flutist Hiroaki Kanda, the Japanese premiere of Dutilleux’s Correspondances with soprano Barbara Hannigan, and Akira Nishimura’s Somakusha for Orchestra. The latter of the three pieces won Nishimura the 59th annual Otaka Award, a prize awarded by the NHK Symphony to a Japanese composer for an outstanding orchestral work.  Following this evening of new music, Heras-Casado travels to Tsukuba on July 2 and Saitama on July 3 with the NHK Symphony to conduct Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D major and Sibelius’s Second Symphony.
