Mendelssohn and Debussy with Orquesta Ciudad de Granada

Pablo Heras-Casado returns to his hometown of Granada this weekend to conduct the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada on March 8 and 9. Pablo, who was recently awarded the Gold Medal of Merit by the Council of Granada, will lead the ensemble in Mendelssohn’s Fifth Symphony and the music to Debussy’s ballet La boîte à joujoux.

Mendelssohn’s music features prominently in the Spanish conductor’s repertoire. In October 2011 he debuted with the Berlin Philharmonic conducting Mendelssohn’s “Hebrides” Overture; and this fall, Pablo returns to the San Francisco Symphony for a two-week festival that pairs the music of Thomas Adès with that of Mendelssohn’s. In spring 2014, harmonia mundi will release a recording of Pablo conducting Mendelssohn’s Second Symphony with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Chorus.
