“Matsukaze” receives World Premiere performance in Brussels

May 3 finds Pablo Heras-Casado leading the world premiere performance of Toshio Hosokawa’s new opera, Matsukaze, at the Theatre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussles, Belgium.

The production, which receives reprise performance on May 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 11, stars noted new music specialist Barbara Hannigan in the title role and Charlotte Hellekant as her sister Murasame. The performances also mark the Spanish conductor’s debut at la Monnaie. Matsukaze, which is based on the highly-regarded Noh play by Kan’ami of the same name, will be reprised with the same cast in Warsaw from May 31 to June 6, in Luxembourg from June 9 to 10, and in Berlin from July 15 to 17.
