Heras Casado Lucerne September 7 9

Pablo Heras-Casado will step in for Pierre Boulez at this year’s Lucerne Festival, conducing the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra in two concerts on September 7 and 9. Because of a fractured shoulder, the French composer and conductor will be unable to conduct as planned, but will nevertheless be in attendance as Artistic Director.

On September 7, Pablo will lead the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra in Boulez’s Cummings ist der Dichter and Le Soleil des eaux, which were originally scheduled to be conducted by the composer. As originally planned, he will also conduct the Swiss premiere of a new work by Dieter Amman for violin and orchestra (with Caroline Widmann as soloist).

On September 9, Pablo directs the full program, comprising select works by Anton Webern, Stravinsky’s Le Roi des Etoiles, Béla Bartók’s Cantata profana, Alban Berg’s Lyric Suite for Orchestra, Op. 30 and Luciano Berio’s Corale (on Sequenza VIII).

Earlier in the festival, on 25 August, Pablo takes part in the Lucerne Festival’s 75th anniversary celebration, conducting the Mahler Chamber Orchestra in Beethoven’s 5th Symphony.

The concerts on September 7 and 9 will be broadcast by SRF 2 Kultur. SRF 1 (TV) will air the concert on 25 August. All broadcasts will be available online for a limited period of time.
