Echo Klassik Award 2014

In a short statement, Pablo said: “I am so happy and proud that this recording of Schubert Symphonies Nos. 3 & 4 has been honoured with an ECHO Klassik. I am thrilled to have been able to achieve this in partnership with my dear and devoted friends at the Freiburger Barockorchester and harmonia mundi – part of our “Great Romantic Journey” together on tour and in the recording studio. My sincere thanks go to the Deutsche Phono-Akademie for this prestigious endorsement.”

Recorded in Granada in July 2012, Pablo’s debut album for harmonia mundi – which was also recognized with a Choc de Classica – garnered great critical acclaim following its release. WQXR New York remarked “This recording provides a chance to hear what the fuss is all about,” while The Financial Times’ five-star review proclaimed: “Uncork the fizz: this is Schubert as never heard in modern times. No one listening to this recording will ever want to return to traditional symphonic Schubert.” The album marks the first of a number of planned recordings with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra.

The ECHO Klassik is one of the best established and most well-known music awards in the world. Every year the Deutsche Phono-Akademie – the cultural institute of the Bundesverband Musikindustrie – honors outstanding and successful performances of national and international artists with this award. The ECHO Klassik is awarded by a jury who make their choices based on artistic quality as well as popular success. The award of the ECHO Klassik therefore not only reflects the opinion of critics but also the appreciation of music consumers. The ECHO Klassik prize winners are determined by a judging panel made up of outstanding personalities from politics, the arts and media and the classical wing of the Bundesverband Musikindustrie.

Tickets for the ECHO Klassik award ceremony on 26 October 2014 at Munich Philharmonic Hall are available here: www.muenchenticket.de. The gala will also be aired by German television station ZDF.
